Temir va alyuminiy oksidlariga boy tuproq va tog‘ jinslari turi bo‘lgan laterit tropik mintaqalarda ko‘plab qurilish ishlarida o‘zining ko‘pligi, ishlov berish qulayligi va chidamliligi sababli keng qo‘llanilgan. Ushbu sharh lateritning qurilish materiali sifatidagi tarixiy, muhandislik va zamonaviy jihatlarini umumlashtiradi. An’anaviy qo‘llanilishiga monumental me’morchilik, xalq turar joylari va mustamlaka davri inshootlari kirsa, zamonaviy qo‘llanilishiga blok va g‘ishtlar, yo‘l asoslari, stabilizatsiyalangan tuproq bloklari va dekorativ fasadlar kiradi. Sharh lateritning fizik-kimyoviy xossalarini, xususan o‘rtacha mustahkamlik, yuqori plastiklik, g‘ovaklik va oksidlarga boy tarkibni ko‘rib chiqadi. Oqartirish, tsement va bitum bilan stabilizatsiya qilish usullari uning chidamliligi va namlikka bardoshliligini oshirishning muhim vositasi sifatida tahlil qilinadi. Mahalliyligi, past uglerod izi va issiqlik samaradorligi sababli lateritning barqaror qurilishdagi salohiyati alohida ta’kidlanadi.
